Moscow, Povarskaya str.
Designer: Yuri L. Kuper.
In this project, the world-renowned artist and architect Yuri Kuper masterfully embodied the concept of "sfumato" (from the Italian sfumato — "softened" or "blended," a painting technique in which the edges of objects and lines are softened, creating a sense of haze, half-tones, and smooth, imperceptible transitions between light and shadow), uniting the strict 1930s constructivist architecture with a deep, immersive theatrical atmosphere. Working with a historic building on Povarskaya Street that had never previously undergone a major overhaul, the author designed the space in a understated monochromatic palette, where the noble gray and smoky shades of natural marble create a sense of silence and a pure pause.
Our company's specialists implemented a complex set of tasks, combining the careful restoration of cultural heritage elements with a modern engineering approach. Special attention was paid to the details: the historic columns in the lobby were carefully encased in protective stone shells, precisely repeating the author's vision. The stone in the lobby interiors acts not as flashy decor, but as a tactile, monumental foundation that softly absorbs light and prepares the audience to experience art.
Thus, the joint work of the team and the author made it possible not only to update the interior space of the legendary theater, but also to preserve its historical soul, blending century-old heritage and modern standards of the highest quality into a single harmonious whole.
